Customized Primary Containment Environment for Foodborne Pathogen Research

Kansas State University

Manhattan, Kansas, USA

Challenge:

Create a primary containment environment for foodborne pathogens.

Solution:

A customized architecturally renovated bioBUBBLE negative pressure soft-walled enclosure  spanning a height of 17 feet (5.2 m). Design accommodates and provides for the cleaning of oversized equipment: Sloped ceilings for water runoff from equipment washdown procedures and sealed vinyl connections and spill berm at the floor for effluent containment.

Results:

100% HEPA-filtered exhaust from primary containment enclosure. Fluid containment for cleaning processes.
