BSL 2 Food Safety Research Facility within a Leased Space

College Station, Texas, USA

Challenge:

To create a primary containment BSL-2 research environment within a leased facility for Texas A&M Center for Food Safety, allowing challenge testing of industry processes using foodborne pathogens to validate food safety controls.

Solution:

Design a 500 square foot biocontainment enclosure with attached antechamber for spray decontamination of outer PPE prior to exit. Clear vinyl permits observation and communication from outside the environment for demonstration and training. The enclosure also features a silicone spill berm at the floor for effluent containment.

Results:

A transportable investment designed using capital equipment that is easily taken down, moved and reconstructed in a new, renovated or leased space.
